Explore the little-visited countryside in Southern Laos, taking in the lush coffee plantations and waterfalls of the Bolaven Plateau and the amazing 4,000 islands in the Mekong River. Watch the sun sink over the Mekong, embrace the breathtaking nature or even get a little active by participating in optional cycling activities in the 4,000 Islands region. End with two nights at the gorgeous La Folie Lodge on languid Done Daeng Island, within eyesight of the mysterious Wat Phou Angkorian temple.

Full itinerary

Day 1

PAKSE & BOLAVEN PLATEAU [2 DAY]

On arrival in Pakse, transfer to your hotel. The next day, see the beautiful Tad Fane Waterfalls, and explore the Bolaven Plateau, where you will visit a Fairtrade coffee plantation and get the chance to sample both the robusta and arabica brews. Mid-afternoon, check-in to your atmospheric lodge next to the lovely Tad Lo waterfalls.

Day 2

DON KHONE ISLAND [S DAYS]

Head to the Kiet Ngong village and take an elephant trek through the jungle to a former warrior training ground, perched atop a hill offering spectacular views of the Xe Pian National Protected Area. Travel by road to the area known as the 4,000 Islands, and then enjoy a boat journey to Done Khone Island, the site of the first French settlement in Laos. Get onto a small boat to catch a glimpse of the rare and elusive Irrawaddy river dolphin. Travel by to the impressive Li Phi Falls and see the remains of the French railway before enjoying free time in the afternoon. You have the option to cycle on the island, exploring crumbling French architecture, riverside scenery, and swaying coconut palms.

Day 3

DONE DAENG ISLAND [2 DAYS]

Marvel at the largest falls in Southeast Asia, Khonephapeng Falls, before traveling to the city of Champasak to visit the famous Wat Phou. Situated on the side of a large hill, these ancient ruins pre-date Angkor Wat and were said to have once been the nexus of the Khmer Kingdom. Continue on to the Champasak jetty for a boat transfer to the gorgeous La Folie Lodge. Cycle to the northern tip of the island, stopping at some villages on the way to get a glimpse into the lives of the locals and enjoy the wonderful scenery. You also have a change to visit Wat Pha. Savor a farewell dinner at the lodge, and on your last day, enjoy free time before your departure transfer.
