Mandalay, Myanmar’s last Royal Capital is surrounded by former capital cities. Three of them will be visited today. Amarapura, where Mahagandayon monastery, a school for young monks, and the U Bein bridge, the longest teakwood bridge in the world, are situated. Sagaing, a former Shan capital in the 14th century with many impressive stupas scattered on its’ hill, lies across the river from Mandalay. Inwa, capital for over 400 years, with highlights such as the ' leaning tower of Ava', the brick and stucco monastery, Maha Aungmye Bonzan and the elegant teakwood monastery Bagaya Kyaung.
