What you need to know before travelling to Bagan

Situated on the eastern bank of the Ayeyarwady River in the central of Burma. Bagan has been described as a place of exquisite ruins with over two thousand large and small pagodas that were built on the plains surrounding the capital. What is known as Bagan as actually with the various areas of greatest interest to the visitor that including New Bagan, Nyuang U, Old Bagan and a spread out area of temples - the Mount Popa National Park

New Bagan is a new village that was created in 1990 to house the people that formerly lived in Old Bagan who were forced to leave at that time

Nyuang U is the bigger town and home to airport, jetty, the train station, bus station and boat piers

Old Bagan is home to many of the ruins and temples of this region and where you will find the best concentration including the notable Ananda Temple and the Shwesandaw Pagoda. It can be found many of the higher-end hotels around here. The laid-back atmosphere is a pleasant contrast to the hustle and bustle of Yangon
